Season 2, Episode 20 Soul of the Guardian The battle in the Fifth Laboratory continues. Separated, each now face a formidable foe: Ed faces off with Number 48 while Al deals with the insane Number 66. After an exchange with Number 66, though, Al soon comes to question his very existence.

Kaede reveals to InuYasha and Miroku that in a nearby cave, she and Kikyo once cared for a badly burnt thief, who ended up lusting for Kikyo and allowed his body to be consumed by yōkai from his desire for her and ended up creating Naraku. Naraku soon unleashes a corrupted Ryōkan upon them since InuYasha is too injured to fight back and Miroku cannot use his wind tunnel with Naraku's Saimyōshō in the air.
